Ethics

As a member of the healthcare community, Precipio’s vision and ethical standpoint drive many of our company policies.. We feel it is important to clearly outline some of our key principles as they relate to the financial and ethical interaction of our business.

First and Foremost: Medical Necessity

We see our healthcare system gradually being brought to its knees, in an untenable situation of growing costs that cannot be economically supported. As citizens of this system (both as providers, as well as patients), we believe we play an important role in contributing to the effective use of healthcare resources. Therefore, we will take every action to limit the tests to those required for the patients’ situation. In the event that we receive a request for a test that, in our medical opinion, may not assist the physician in obtaining the necessary information to treat the patient, one of our medical staff will contact the physician to discuss the test ordered. Ultimately we are here to serve YOU, the customer, and will accept your informed decision.

In the spirit of the Hippocratic Oath

In a recent statement issued by the College of American Pathologists (CAP) on the issue of HER/EMR donations, CAP clearly condones the practice of these contributions as “…an improper inducement for physician practices to refer patients”. Numerous States have already accepted CAP’s petition, and have subsequently issued legal opinions prohibiting these donations under the anti-kickback law of 2012. We strongly believe in the value of the product and services we provide you to be of the highest quality available in the market. YOU will benefit from our services; as will your PATIENTS. We do not participate in any act that may be perceived as providing the physician with a financial incentive to refer specimens to our laboratory for diagnosis. We believe that these decisions should be made based on one criterion only – the accuracy of the diagnostic result, and the quality of service provided.

Fee Schedule Transparency

Quoting former US Supreme Court Justice Louis D. Brandeis, “Sunshine is said to be the best disinfectant”. As part of the movement towards greater transparency in the healthcare system, at your request, we are happy to provide you with our complete and detailed fee schedule for every test we offer. You will be able to see the financial impact of the tests you order; this will also afford you with greater visibility to the bills we will be submitting to patient insurers for our services.
